Give time some time
Give time some time

“So Saul died, and his three sons died there together, and his dynasty came to an end.” – 1 Chronicles 10:6 (NLT)

Sometimes, when I think about how God connects people, it baffles me. The truth is, God doesn’t just do things randomly. It’s as though, when He connects people,  He plants them with precision.

Let me tell you my story.

Last year, I got the chance to be a backing vocalist for Ohemaa Mercy. Then, later, it was Moses OK. Now, this year, I found myself BVing for Daughters of Glorious Jesus. I’m not even saying this to sound deep, but think about that lineup. These are people who have lasted! Ministries that have seen decades come and go!

There are many people who started with Ohemaa Mercy, with Moses OK, even with Daughters. Some of them were incredible. They had the fire. The oil. The voice. But where are they now? You barely hear their names. You rarely hear their songs. I’ve been thinking about some of these things since last year. Then yesterday as I read my bible, I came across a verse;

“So Saul died, and his three sons died there together, and his dynasty came to an end.” – 1 Chronicles 10:6 (NLT)

Sojourners,

Saul didn’t just die. His dynasty died with him! His legacy couldn’t survive him! If you know Saul’s story, you will know that he still had at least one other son but why did the bible say his dynasty came to an end? Some musicians are not even dead yet, but their ministry is already forgotten. To be fair, people die every day (after all it is appointed unto man to …..???), but the question is, should their legacy die with them?

Now that question also begs the question,

What if they’ve simply finished their course? What if they’ve done what God asked them to do, and now it’s time to rest? What if longevity isn’t always the evidence of God’s presence? Because I'm reminded of the priest Gamaliel, who said about the Apostles, "So I am telling you: Hands off these men! Let them alone. If this program or this work is merely human, it will fall apart, but if it is of God, there is nothing you can do about it." Acts 5:38

These are just my ponderings. I don’t think I have all the answers. But using my experience, I think God will always give you a glimpse of the kind of assignment you are going to have. Truly, we have all been called into the world but your world could be Ghana while someone else’s is Ghana plus the UK, who knows?

But the one thing we all have in common is; our journeys will only begin with Obedience. Mine began with showing up at rehearsals and singing alto in the back until I was challenged to begin singing soprano. That push has changed a lot for me and truthfully, I’m still trying to run away from that soprano singer title. Lol.

But today I am singing behind people whose songs I grew up on!

So really, what’s the secret to longevity?

For me, I think it’s simply staying where God plants you until He says move. Because if Saul's dynasty could end with his death, then clearly, longevity is not automatic. You can be anointed and still not last. You can start well and still not last.

But these ministers, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Ohemaa Mercy, Moses OK, they’ve lasted through decades. And their impact has stretched across generations. And maybe, just maybe, God is using them to show us what legacy looks like.

God is working on something far beyond what you can see now. So, water the soil on which you have been planted and just give time some time.

By the way, if you ever see me on TV, say a quick prayer for me and then feel free to call and laugh at my terrible dancing. Lol.

I’ll be waiting, and until then, Great Grace to you.
